Overweight and Longevity: incompatible concepts

6/26/2019
It is this truth confirmed by scientists from Sweden. Previously, it was found that for half of mankind with overweight, a condition which was not burdened with the metabolic syndrome, the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and the second type does not exceed the risk of these diseases in men with normal body weight.

Dr. Johan Arnlov with colleagues from the University of Uppsala (Sweden) conducted a study in which he tried to prove that even in the absence of metabolic syndrome risk of heart attack or stroke in obese men is still higher. In the experiment, it was attended by more than 1,700 male volunteers in the age group over 30 years. All study participants were overweight or obese. During the investigation it was established that among those participants whose weight is higher than normal, the likelihood of the above mentioned diseases has increased to 52%, and the presence in the subject of obesity increased the risk by more than 2 times.

Dr. Johan Arnlov said: "Our study demonstrates the fallacy of the assertion that the existence of excess weight and obesity" has no negative impact on health "in the absence of metabolic syndrome in a patient."

Scientists are now planning to start work on the relationship between obesity, metabolic syndrome and related conditions at the beautiful half of humanity.
